Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy (ASCE)

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS and PANEL PROPOSALS

CUBA ON THE PRECIPICE OF CHANGE?

The Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy (ASCE) is accepting proposal submissions for its 2026 Annual Conference, to be held on September 25 & 26, bringing together scholars, experts, and practitioners to examine Cuba’s economic, legal, and social landscape at a critical juncture.

This year’s theme, “Cuba on the Precipice of Change?” considers whether the country is nearing a decisive turning point. Amid economic strain, demographic shifts, and evolving policy signals, we invite papers and panels that assess Cuba’s current trajectory and potential paths forward, including structural reform, institutional change, private sector development, and international engagement.

Contributions may also address related topics such as political and social economy, economic history, comparative transition experiences, international commercial relations, migration and demography, labor markets, and the role of the Cuban diaspora.

To support topic development, the conference includes a highlighted list of suggested areas. These may serve as a useful guide for generating paper or panel ideas.

Guidelines to be considered:

  • Abstracts: Maximum 250 words

  • Author Bios: Maximum 150 words

  • Deadline: July 1, 2026

  • Email Proposal Submissions To: ascecubaoperations@gmail.com

  • Subject Line: “ASCE 2026 CONFERENCE ABSTRACT.”
